School Wide Service Projects

In keeping with our school’s three primary commitments of worship, study and service, St. Joseph Catholic School will not only provide our students with a rigorous academic environment,  and opportunities to worship as a Catholic community, but will also seek to immerse our students in the rich heritage of Catholic Social Justice through service to others.  As the Catechism of the Catholic Church explains, "To receive in truth the Body and Blood of Christ given up for us, we must recognize Christ in the poorest, his brethren" (no. 1397).  Therefore, the seven themes of Catholic social teaching as listed below should not only be at the core of our Catholic curriculum, but should also be lived out in the lives of every Catholic. It is part of our mission as Catholics and as educators to teach our children to walk in the footsteps of Jesus.

The seven themes of Catholic social justice:

1. Life and Dignity of the Human Person
2. Call to Family, Community, and Participation
3. Rights and Responsibilities
4. Option for the Poor and Vulnerable
5. The Dignity of Work and the Rights of Workers
6. Solidarity
7. Care for God’s Creation

Year-long Annual Service:  St. Joseph has an on-going service project and relationship with The Wales Apartments--an assisted living residence for special-needs adults in the Dallas area.  They are under the umbrella organization, Lifenet.  The residents are not able to purchase toilet paper with food stamps.  Many have health issues that cause them to be in more need and even less able to purchase items for themselves.  Every month, our classes take turns providing toilet paper and sack lunches for the residents.   It is a blessing to them and a learning opportunity for us.
